Question: Squealing noise undiagnosed by mechanic

My car has been making a squealing noise for about a year now. It happens intermittently, mostly when pushing the brakes in reverse. But not every time, most often when the car has been sitting for several hours or over night. It will very rarely happen when the car is in drive. Front brakes were replaced about 6 months ago and the noise did not go away. Mechanic says the back brakes are fine. He also didn't seem to hear the noise and what he did hear he said was the tires squealing a little and completely normal. It's not a squeak, it's a high pitched squeal, so I'm positive he did not hear the right now. Any ideas? The car seems to drive just fine.
